Howdy, y'all!

Welcome to the Daily RFT, the news blog for the Riverfront Times. I'm your host, brand-new staff writer Lindsay Toler. Let's play, Who's Sittin' on a Hot Scoop?

Every so often, we reach out to you, loyal blog readers, for story ideas. We get some really, really, really, really great stories just by staying in touch with the people roaming St. Louis' busy streets, but this week's a little different. You know the blog, but you don't know me.

Before you pass along your idea for a story about a problem in your neighborhood, a cause you're promoting, a person who deserves to be recognized or something else important to you and your neighbors, maybe I should introduce myself a little.

Here's what you should know:

Where'd you go to high school? Well, I'm not from St. Louis, so my answer won't tell you as much as you hoped. I'm from Dallas, Tx., and I lived in London, Beijing, Seattle and Moldova before settling down in St. Louis to join the friends I made while studying journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Here's a snippet from my time in Beijing:

Why the RFT? I've spent the last two years covering South County news for Patch.com, AOL's hyperlocal journalism experiment. When AOL laid off 500 people across the country including me, I jumped at the chance to continue churning out stories about important issues for a city audience. I love turning news stories into lists, covering the Cardinals and finding story ideas hidden in Instagram feeds.

Favorite STL moment: Modeling a saloon dress made entirely from garbage bags and duct tape in the lobby of the Moonrise Hotel for the Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala.

Anything you want to confess? I rooted for Boston in the 2004 World Series. THERE I SAID IT. I still lived in Texas, I had NO ties to Missouri and I was ignorantly unaware of the treasure that is the Cardinals baseball team. I adopted them during the 2011 World Series, when they won the trophy over my hometown team, the Texas Rangers, and I don't feel bad trading alliances because in Texas we get more excited over high school football than professional baseball.

What's your most prized possession? My schnoodlehuahua, Persie. She's part-schnauzer, part-poodle, part-chihuahua and all-attitude. She loves sticking her tongue down your throat and destroying tennis balls.

What should I do to get on your good side? Buy me a Dr. Pepper. To get on my bad side? Make a blonde joke.

How do we contact you? Great question! You can always call me at 314-754-5940 or email me at lindsay.toler@riverfronttimes.com. You can also tweet me @StLouisLindsay.

And congratulations to Sam Levin, Daily RFT's former blogger, for moving on to new opportunities! *Pours one out for Sam.*
