Updated 1 p.m. Tuesday: Best Buy just called Riverfront Times to inform us that Wednesday and Saturday's Nintendo event has moved from its South County store to its Brentwood location. The article below reflects the change.
Los Angeles plays host this week to the biggest video game trade show of the year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo. But don't fret. You won't need industry contacts and a ticket to California to experience all the new releases expected to debut this week at E3. That's because Nintendo has decided to trim back its presence at the convention, and, in its place, bring its creations directly to the people with special events at select Best Buys across the country.
And guess what? The Brentwood Best Buy (8300 Eager Road; 314-646-1331) is the only store in Missouri lucky enough to merit inclusion. So what to expect Wednesday afternoon when Nintendo hosts its shindig at the Brentwood Best Buy?
Lines, for one thing. The event is sure to draw the geeks out from far and wide. And, like any gaming event worth its weight in bitcoin, there is sure to be cosplay. A representative from Best Buy tells Daily RFT that attendees can also anticipate giveaways and special deals regarding Nintendo products. But other than that, both Nintendo and Best Buy are keeping mum.
While many speculate that Nintendo will demo the latest Mario Kart, 3D Mario and Smash Brothers games this week, gamers will have to wait until Nintendo's direct presentation this morning to find out which titles will be playable and which ones will simply be shown via video.
Continue on for details about the two (two!) opportunities to sample Nintendo's newest stuff this week at the South County Best Buy. Here's a guide to your Nintendo E3 experience:
1. Visit e3.nintendo.com at 9 a.m. (CST) today for a video presentation of which games will be playable at Best Buy locations throughout North America.
2. Go to the south-county Best Buy this Wednesday between 4 and 8 p.m. Other gamers will presumably be queued up, so arrive early to lock in your chance to sample the latest Wii U and 3DS games.
3. Subscribe to Nintendo's YouTube Channel for more details.
4. Try not to get creeped out by Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime, who coldly stares into the camera while reciting a strict set of talking points regarding Nintendo's E3 presentation (see the video below).
If Wednesday just doesn't work out for your schedule, Best Buy and Nintendo will be hosting a redux on Saturday, June 15, from 1 to 5 p.m.
