Daryl Haywood: St. Louis Homicide No. 79; Killed in Ambush

One man is dead and three others are injured after they were ambushed while driving early Saturday morning. Police say Daryl Haywood, 26, was driving eastbound on I-70 with three other men his car, then exited at Grand Boulevard at 2:10 a.m. While they were heading south on Grand, another vehicle pulled even with them long enough for its occupants to start shooting. Haywood crashed the car at 19th street and East Grand Boulevard in the College Hill neighborhood (above).

Haywood was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the torso. His passengers suffered injuries ranging from cuts to the forehead to gunshots to the leg and wrist. All three are in stable condition at area hospitals.

Police say the gunmen's car may be a black Pontiac Grand Am. No other description of the shooters is available, but police continue to investigate the murder of Daryl Haywood.
