Henry Richardson was working on his car Friday evening when he heard his son, 8, calling out to him
. Richardson came around the other side of the car and saw his son in the arms of his neighbor Jedidiah Burks, 27.
He asked Burks what he thought he was doing, and Burks ducked into his car and took off with the boy. Richardson grabbed on to the passenger side as they careened down the streets of their Ferguson neighborhood.
Richardson was eventually thrown from the car, but he wasn't going to give up. He shouted at another neighbor to call police while Richardson pursued Burks in his own car. Somehow his son was able to get away from Burks after a few blocks. Richardson found him standing at an intersection, unharmed but shaken up.
Police picked up Burks not far from where father and son were reunited. Neither the police nor Richardson have any idea why Burks grabbed the boy. Burks has been charged with kidnapping and second-degree assault, and is in custody on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
