Nineteen-year-old father Alexander Brooks was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a child after doctors at Cardinal Glennon discovered that his son had serious injuries during a routine examination.
Police believe Brooks committed the alleged abuse while the child's mother was out of the home. The five-month-old boy had fractured ribs and "multiple fractures" in his leg which were caused by severe twisting.
Both charges are felonies which carry a sentence of up to thirty years in prison if Brooks is convicted. His bail has been set at $250,000.
