Authorities identified the worker who fell from the new Mississippi River Bridge as Andy Gammon, 35, a carpenter from Park Hills. Gammon was on an aerial man lift that was on a barge upriver from the bridge construction site when he went into the water around 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Rescuers suspended their search for Gammon late yesterday, but will resume the operation this morning. Work on the bridge project has halted.

Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are onsite trying to determine what happened. This is the "first major incident" on the bridge in two years of construction, according to Missouri Department of Transportation project director Greg Horn.
