Burrell Mohler Jr. has been imprisoned since 2009, when he and his four brothers, his father and one uncle were all accused of committing long-term, horrific incest and abuse by six relatives. The Burrell family saga is rife with stomach-churning details such as children as young as five being "married" to older male relatives to "legitimize" the sexual abuse, incest pornography being found in the home of Burrell Mohler Sr., and instances of church leaders being apprised of the crimes and then failing to report them to the proper authorities.

Burrell Mohler Sr, 79,  was released from prison on his own recognizance in mid-February because of his numerous health conditions, leaving his son, Burrell Jr, as the only one of the accused offenders still in custody while the case grinds its way towards a courtroom. His brothers had all posted bond years ago, and his uncle died in Florida before being extradited back to Missouri.

Just when you think the story can't get any more convoluted, one of the six accusers last Friday asked to be removed from the case, and the petition was granted. Lafayette County Prosecutor Kellie Wingate Campbell then dropped one charge against Burrell, Jr -- the only one that involved this sixth accuser -- and on Monday, the judge lowered Burrell's bond to $5,000. He has now been released on bond.

So after two-and-a-half years, this thing still hasn't made it to trial, one of the accusers has dropped out of the case, and all of the accusers (save the deceased one) are free on bond or their own recognizance.

We'll keep you posted on further developments; if there's anything certain about this story, there are going to be further developments.
