A 25-year-old man from East St. Louis is in custody after allegedly breaking into the home of a woman and her elderly mother and raping the daughter before fleeing the scent with stolen money.

Police arrived to the women's Belleville home on Thursday night to find the 59-year-old daughter bleeding profusely from the head. She told police that she and her 80-year-old mother heard a knock on the door. The next thing they knew, the suspect was inside the home and attacking the daughter with a metal pipe.

Police say the attacker then sexually assaulted the daughter and stole money from both victims before escaping into the night. Authorities later arrested Charles R. Wilson in his hometown of East St. Louis. Prosecutors charged Wilson on Saturday with criminal sexual assault, home invasion and robbery. Bail was set at $1 million.
