Dash, a local Vizsla, opposes the new bill from St. Louis Alderwoman Lyda Krewson mandating that dogs be spayed/neutered and microchipped.
As Daily RFT's Chad Garrison reported yesterday, Alderwoman Lyda Krewson is pushing a bill that would require St. Louis residents to spay/neuter their pets and implant them with a microchip -- or face a $200 annual fine.
That plan drew a vociferous response on our website yesterday (more on that in a bit). It also generated a video response from a thirteen-week-old Vizsla in Soulard named Dash.
Dash, as it turns out, isn't just a young male dog with all his bits intact. He's also a neighbor of Ryan, the local blogger behind the I Love Soulard website, meaning he's one of those dogs who has a social media presence, including his own Twitter handle (@ThatDudeDash).
And somehow, Dash was able to persuade blogger Ryan to record his thoughts on Krewson's bill -- which Ryan promptly posted on I Love Soulard and also gave us permission to share with Daily RFT readers. Even if you couldn't care less about your 4th and 8th Amendment rights, as detailed by Dash, it's worth watching simply because Dash is so gosh-darn cute. (Those floppy ears! Those big puppy eyes!)
Now Dash isn't the only one raising a ruckus over the issue. Yesterday, after the Drudge Report linked to Garrison's post, our comment section turned into a fascinating free-for-all. When last we checked, the post had generated 412 comments.
The Drudge Report's loyalest readers, God love 'em, are mostly libertarian in their politics, so we're not surprised that the responses tilted heavily against Krewson's bill. We did find it amusing, however, to see what sort of themes developed as the conversation grew in size.
After the jump, our rough breakdown of some of the most popular responses. Readers concerned about government overreach: 107 Readers who think the bill is a good one: 19 Readers concerned that microchips cause cancer in pets: 10 Readers concerned that spaying/neutering is inhumane: 9 Readers referencing Hitler's final solution/Nazism: 7 Readers suggesting the government will soon be microchipping us: 6 Readers sick of paying for the costs of human breeding/welfare: 5 Readers suggesting we feed stray pets to the hungry: 3
Finally, a number of readers suggested they could get behind Alderwoman Krewson's bill, but only if ________ were required to be spayed/neutered and microchipped instead. We've broken down the most popular responses below:
* Welfare recipients/ welfare hos: 19 * Liberals/Democraps/progressives: 9 * Politicians: 10 * Bureaucrats: 4 * Alderwoman Lyda Krewson: 6 * Bob Barker: 3 * Bob Barker's parents: 1 * All St. Louis Aldermen/their children: 4 * People in East St. Louis: 1 * A fellow commenter and his "entire family": 1 * Busybody nuisances: 1 * Humans, because "they are the ones causing chaos in our world: 1 * "Nigero's and SPICCKS": 1 * Irresponsible parents: 1 * Feral youth: 1 * People who've had an abortion: 1 * The disabled: 1 * All men: 2 * All residents of St. Louis: 1
