And in Other Mall-Related News ... St. Louis Galleria Celebrates 25 Years on Friday

Galleria hits the quarter-century mark.

Yesterday we wrote how Northwest Plaza -- once the city's premier shopping center and the world's biggest mall -- is to be auctioned off this month as part of its foreclosure.

As we reported, Northwest Plaza began its fall from grace about two decades ago, or right about the time the St. Louis Galleria opened as the biggest shopping attraction in town.

Unlike Northwest Plaza, the '90s and the aughts were kind to the Galleria (if not its corporate owner, General Growth Properties) and now the mall is ready to celebrate. This Friday the Galleria will hold a 25th-anniversary party for itself from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in its Garden Court. Festivities are to include snacks, prizes and special offers for shoppers.

Best of all, the party is conveniently scheduled so that kids without parental guidance can attend!
