What a difference a loss makes.

Last time Devon Alexander fought in his hometown of St. Louis was in August 2010. Back then, Alexander was the undefeated, junior welterweight champion and the main event in a full night of boxing put on by promoter Don King at Scottrade Center.

Nine months later, and Alexander is no longer the champ and -- evidently -- no longer enough of an attraction to square off at Scottrade. Instead, Alexander will head west to St. Charles for his next "hometown" fight, scheduled for June 25.

Don King Productions announced today that it's booked the Family Arena for the multi-bout event, featuring as its highlight a contest between Alexander (21-1, 13 KO's) and the hard-punching Argentine boxer Lucas Matthysse (28-1, 26 KO's).

Frankly, even if Alexander had remained undefeated, Family Arena is probably a better choice for the contest. Last August's fight failed -- by a long shot -- to fill the cavernous Scottrade Center.

More interesting than the Alexander fight (and the venue), though, is the undercard that features undefeated cruiser-weight Ryan Coyne.

Coyne will be fighting in his legitimate hometown June 25. That's right Coyne, a.k.a the "Irish Outlaw" is a St. Charles High grad (class of '01) and former football player for Mizzou. He'll be taking on champion Guillermo "El Filino" Jones of Panama for the WBA cruiser-weight title.

Coyne: He's a Contender.
