Delrico Jones: St. Louis Homicide No. 46; Shot In Robbery That Also Injures Gunman

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department believes it's finally sussed out the details of a bizarre robbery-turned-murder last night in north city. Police say 21-year-old Delrico Jones and another man were sitting in a car in the 5500 block of Minerva (below) around 6 p.m. Monday when two gunmen entered the vehicle and announced a robbery.

One of the suspects then fired shots, striking Jones, of the 8500 block of Atherton, in the face and shoulder. The gunmen left the scene, and the man inside the car with Jones drove him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Here's where it gets a bit strange: A short time later, another man was dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the gut.

He told authorities he'd been shot in the 5500 block of Wabada in north city. However, police believe he is actually one of the suspects in the robbery plot on Jones and was apparently shot by his partner during the melee that led to Jones' death.

Police describe that suspect as a 35-year-old black male who remains hospitalized in critical condition. His partner -- a 26-year-old black male who allegedly killed Jones and injured his criminal accomplice -- is now in police custody.
