Awww, lookit that little face!!
Need a dawg? How about a big, goofy, friendly one? This weekend, the Humane Society of Missouri
is holding "Pittie Parties" so you can mix and mingle with pit bulls and see what great pets they can make.
Stop by any of the state's three Humane Society locations -- in the city at 1201 Macklind Avenue, in Westport Area at 2400 Drilling Service Road, or in Chesterfield at 17357 Edison Avenue -- tomorrow and Sunday. You can hang out with pit bull mixes, American Pit Bull Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers.
This breed can get a bad rap because they're often used in dog fighting rings. But anyone with any experience with the breeds could tell you that they're gentle souls unless trained otherwise. Hell, even your friendly resident Daily RFT
cat supremacist has pit bull buddies.
At the city location, meet certified professional dog trainer Cinder Wilkinson-Kenner between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday and get the scoop on living with a pit. If you make a pal you can't leave without, the Humane Society is offering a discount on adoption fees, which include micro-chipping, vaccination and spay/neuter surgery. Also, if you adopt, you'll take home a sack of fancy kibble to jumpstart your friendship.
