Last spring Daily RFT told you about the frustrations Alderman Antonio French (Ward 21) was encountering in his effort to install surveillance cameras in his often crime-plagued corner of north St. Louis.

Well, recently French cleared a major hurdle. As reported today, a $300,000 contract for the cameras has been awarded to security firm ADT and the surveillance equipment should begin popping up by the end of the month.

"One of reason people do things is because they think that can get away with it," French told us in an April interview about the cameras. "If they know somebody is watching it's very likely they'll go somewhere else to do drug activity and violence."
