Twenty-five-year-old Jeffrey Stewart Jr. was outside his home in the 5900 block of Era Avenue in north St. Louis last night when he was shot in the chest.

The shooting occurred around 5:50 p.m. with neighbors telling St. Louis police that they saw a suspect run east from the scene and across the nearby railroad tracks. Stewart was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Last night's murder is the fourth shooting death in the city's North Point neighborhood in a matter of days.

Two men were killed Wednesday night just on the other side of the railroad tracks in the 8500 block of Trafford Lane. On Tuesday night a man shot to death an alleged burglar inside a home in the 3500 block of Astra Avenue. North Point is just north of Calvary Cemetery.
