Pearce Cosey: Police Shoot Suspect Dead in North County

St. Louis County police have identified the man shot and killed yesterday by an undercover detective as 33-year-old Pearce Cosey.

According to police, officers with the department's Bureau of Drug Enforcement saw what they believed to be a suspicious transaction occurring around 7:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the Brighton Apartments, located in the 2700 block of Glynbourne Drive near I-270 and Old Halls Ferry.

One of the suspects -- Cosey -- was in a vehicle by himself. The other was on foot.

Police report that as the officers approached the suspects, Cosey drove forward striking another car and pinning a detective between the vehicles. Two other detectives fired several shots at the Posey killing him.

The detective pinned between the vehicles was transported to a nearby hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. The second man at the scene cooperated with detectives and was questioned. He has not been charged at this time.

According to court documents, Posey, of the 2600 block of Daman Court in North County, has had several run-ins with the law over the years, pleading guilty to marijuana possession, failing to pay alimony and driving with a suspended or revoked license among other charges.
