UPDATE: Police now say
that the madman may have merely been shirtless.
If getting carjacked at gunpoint is a terrifying experience, then getting carjacked at gunpoint by a naked guy has to be the most
A woman told police that a naked man stole her PT Cruiser and shot her in the thigh and arm on the 800 block of North 36th Street in East St. Louis. The woman survived, and police tracked the guy down a few minutes later when -- for some unexplained reason -- he tried to shoot a garbage man.
It was that kind of morning in East Boogie.
The Post-Dispatch reports
that the garbage man was able to pry the gun from the naked car thief's hands but he must have had a backup burner because he fired several shots at police as they chased him from 11th Street and Lake
Avenue to the Washington Park MetroLink stop near East St. Louis Senior High School at 47th Street and St. Clair Avenue, where he crashed the Cruiser and was apprehended.
As if that wasn't enough craziness for one morning, shortly after the woman's car was stolen at 6 a.m., police received reports of a red pickup truck getting shot at by someone with an AK-47. That incident took place on the 1500 block of Exchange Avenue, about five minutes from the site of the carjacking and near the Emerson Park MetroLink stop. No arrests have been made in that incident.
