Even Obama Loves Jonathan Franzen

We already know that everyone loves St. Louis local-boy-made-hella-famous-author Jonathan Franzen, but we didn't know that "everybody" extended even to el presidente, Barack Obama.

Obama is currently on a ten-day vacation in Martha's Vineyard with the First Family, where he has only shown his face to media a scant few times. The first time he emerged, however, was last Friday, when he popped into a local independent bookstore, Bunch of Grapes.

There, CBS reports, Obama picked up a copy of Franzen's upcoming novel, Freedom, which isn't due to hit shelves until August 31. A bookstore employee told CBS that the president was given an advance reading copy of the novel, which is a final proof send out to reviewers before the book's release.

The Guardian is already calling Freedom the novel of the century

Now let's all wait and see how Franzen feels about Obama's "tastemaking in the U.S.," shall we? Move over, Oprah.
