Correction to this article appears at end of post.

The Missouri Department of Transportation first made history books back in February 2009 when it began the nation's first Economic Recovery Act project within a few minutes of the measure becoming law.

Now -- eighteen months later -- that project is nearly finished. MoDOT plans to open the new $8.5-million Osage River Bridge at Tuscumbia on Monday.

So, who's up for a road trip to Tuscumbia on Monday to celebrate. Hello? Anyone?

Note: This post originally stated that the Tuscumbia bridge was the first Recovery Act Project nationwide to be completed in addition to it being the first one on which construction began. That is incorrect. Other projects have finished earlier.
