Wallace Ellis: St. Louis Homicide No. 71; Teenager Shot on Lexington Avenue


Seventeen-year-old Wallace Ellis was standing outside in the 3900 block of Lexington Avenue (image below) yesterday afternoon when he was struck by gunfire and collapsed on a lawn.

Witnesses report hearing three to four gunshots ring out in the north St. Louis neighborhood and then seeing two black males running west on Lexington.

Ellis, of the 5300 block of Minerva, was was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. He'd been shot once in the side and multiple times in the arm.

St. Louis police have made now arrests at this time but say they're pursuing some very strong leads. Anyone with information is encouraged to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.

Ellis is the 71st homicide of the year in St. Louis. Through this past Sunday, the city had reported 70 killings -- one more than the same time last year.
