The road trip is about to end, ladies -- and fellas.
St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley announced yesterday that beginning January 1 his 13 department heads will need to find a new way to get to work.
Dooley is stripping the county directors of take-home cars
furnished by taxpayers. He's also getting rid of the gas cards they used for free fuel. The move will save the county $91,000 a year -- a tiny fraction of the county's $500 million budget.
Still, as Dooley (rightly, in my opinion) states:
"There are guys out there who are not making half as much (as department deirctors) and they're asking, 'I got to buy my own car. Why don't they?'"
