You head to the casino 'cause Lady Lucky, she's on your side!
That's where St. Charles police found 39-year-old Lori Pellin
yesterday afternoon after gamblers at the Ameristar Casino witnessed Pellin's Chevy Lumina parked on the fourth-floor of the parking garage with an amazing 25 cats and two dogs crammed inside.
The air temperature yesterday was in the mid-90s and the animals were left without water. But lest you consider Pellin a negligent pet owner, consider this: She did leave the windows cracked -- an inch or so -- and some kibble scattered about the floor of the vehicle.
So why stuff a virtual animal-shelter worth of pets into your car and then go to the casino? Because, as Pellin told police, her ark was in dry dock. That and she was recently made homeless after being evicted from her apartment. Hmm, wonder why the landlord kicked her out?
Thankfully, none of the 27 animals appeared to suffer any ill effects of the heat and were taken to the St. Charles Animal Control for safekeeping. Pellin, meanwhile, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor animal abuse.
