Jerome Brown failed to show up for work Monday morning, prompting family members to call police to ask that they check in on the 27-year-old Wellston resident.

Officers with the Wellston and St. Louis County police arrived at Brown's home in the 1800 block of Irving around 9 a.m. June 21 to find his bruised and battered body -- the apparent victim of a beating with a "blunt object."

Missing from the home was Brown's 2006 Cadillac STS -- a vehicle that would turn up later this week in Springfield, Missouri, with Brown's friend, Robert Doll, behind the wheel.

Yesterday the St. Louis County Prosecutor's Office charged Doll, 32, with one count of murder and another count of armed criminal action. Police say they don't have a motive for the homicide, but do confirm that Doll and the suspect were "friends."

Doll, of the 3800 block of Bates in south St. Louis, is being held without bond.
