St. Louis police yesterday arrested a 24-year-old suspect in the savage beating and robbery last week of a couple in south county.

According to St. Louis County Police, which have been working around the clock since the couple was found beaten and bloodied in their home Friday, the suspect was arrested after city police responded to a disturbance call. The suspect -- described as a black male living in the 63115 zip code of St. Louis -- was taken into custody yesterday around 3:40 p.m.

A Toyota Rav 4, stolen from the home following the beating, was located and towed from East St. Louis. Two other individuals were questioned yesterday but have not been charged.

The victims are still recovering in a local hospital. Police say they'll release the identity of the suspect as soon as warrants are issued -- which should be later today.
