David Ray Fugate delivered some Jefferson County justice on his daughter's boyfriend Sunday, shooting the man dead after being informed he allegedly assaulted the girl.

The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. yesterday in House Springs. The Jefferson County sheriff's department says Fugate arrived at the 5600 block of Ruth Drive to pick up his daughter, who promptly told her father that boyfriend Michael Crutchfield had "assaulted" her.

Fugate, 48 and the 22-year-old Crutchfield then got into an verbal argument that ended when Fugate allegedly drew a semi-automatic pistol from his waist-band and shot Crutchfield dead.

Sheriff deputies found Crutchfield's body lying on the road.

Today prosecutors charged Fugate, of Cedar Hill, with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. He's being held without bond.

The Jefferson County sheriff's department tells Daily RFT that Fugate did not have a concealed-carry permit.
