You Can't Beat a Dead Horse, But in Missouri You May Soon Eat One

The Missouri House yesterday endorsed a bill that would allow Missouri to become the only state in nation to process horse meat for human consumption.

The bill (HB 1747) still needs one more vote before it heads to the Senate.

The bill's sponsor State Rep. James Viebrock (R - Springfield) believes slaughtering horses in Missouri will aid the overall welfare of the animals in Missouri by providing owners an option for unwanted or neglected horses.

Since the last horse processing plant in the U.S. closed in 2007, many old horses now head to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada.
