Newman will have to unseat Jerry Costello, a Congressman since 1988.
It's official: the Riverfront Times
' Ask A Cougar!
columnist also-ran Teri Davis Newman
is one rreeow!
closer to Capitol Hill
Newman yesterday clawed her way past Theresa Kormos
and onto the GOP ticket in the 2010 Congressional election. The women, both conservatives
, were battling for the nomination in Illinois' Twelfth Congressional District.
Newman, a 51-year-old wedding planner from Highland, carried 52.6 percent of the vote
, according to the Associated Press, besting Kormos' 47.4 percent.
Newman will have to spend the next year campaigning if she wants to, ahem, unseat incumbent Congressman Jerry Costello
. He's had the job since 1988.
Newman's got the fighting spirit, as Daily RFT
not so long ago. She was a contender for our Ask A Cougar! competition
, pining to pen a weekly column about how to pick up younger men. (The columns never ended up running.)
Kormos used that against Newman in the race, saying it disqualified her from serving the people. To which Newman retorted, "crapola."
