Vick gives a "Philly Hello" to his new teammates.
Personally I was hoping Michael Vick would be picked up by the Cleveland Browns. Can you imagine anything better than the a man convicted of operating a dog-fighting ring
jumping into the Brown's "Dawg Pound"
after a touch down? The scene would be sure to throw PETA into a tizzy -- not that the animal-welfare community is at all pleased
with the Philadelphia Eagles signing Vick
But really? What better team than Philadelphia?
This is the city, after all, whose fans infamously threw snowballs at Santa Claus
when he visited the old Eagles' stadium back in the late 1960s. And their behavior has turned even more boorish
in recent years. Check out these videos of Phillies fans getting into fights
at the city's baseball park.
Yesterday Eagles coach Andy Reid defended the signing of Vick.
"I'm a believer that as long as people go through the right process, they deserve a second chance," said Reid.
But then, what do you expect from a coach whose own sons, Britt and Garrett, are no choir boys
Truth be told, the addition of Vick will likely make the Eagles the team to beat (again) in the NFC this year. Which leads to this question -- and perhaps what this blog post is really all about.
Why the hell didn't the abysmal St. Louis Rams sign Vick? After securing just two victories last year, the team certainly could use someone of his tremendous athletic abilities. Could be, too, that Vick would benefit from our decent, Midwestern values.
Or maybe not
