Note: This story updated here.

Moments ago we followed a Post-Dispatch article that reported sixteen-year-old Devante Thomas, accused of shooting a Berkeley police officer last night, has been caught.

Apparently the P-D -- and we -- got that wrong.

This just in from the St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Rick Eckhard.

I HAVE RECEIVED MULTIPLE CALLS REFERENCE THE ARREST OF THE SUSPECT WE ARE LOOKING FOR REGARDING THE BERKELEY POLICE OFFICER BEING SHOT ON 7/22/09.
THE SUSPECT HAS NOT BEEN LOCATED OR TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.

I REALIZE THAT SCANNER TRAFFIC INDICATED THAT A SUBJECT WAS DETAINED BUT IT WAS NOT THE SUSPECT WE ARE SEEKING.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS AN ON-GOING ACTIVE INVESTIGATION.   EVEN THOUGH A SUBJECT MAY BE DETAINED OR ARRESTED, UNTIL OUR DETECTIVES CONFIRM THE IDENTITY, WE WILL NOT CANCEL THE SEARCH.

We regret the error. More on this case as it continues to unfold.
