  • Bean at RFT's Iron Fork on Tuesday of this week.
Harry Bean, the owner and lead photographer of Blacktie-St. Louis, passed away Wednesday morning from a heart attack while exercising. He was 53.

Hours earlier, Bean had attended Riverfront Times' Iron Fork party Tuesday night at the Ritz-Carlton. It was the last of thousands of parties and balls Bean covered for his society website and various other publications.

I never met Bean, so I won't go all maudlin on this post. I did, however, appreciate his work. As a journalist (and voyeur) I've used his website on numerous occasions to see photos of St. Louis' blue-bloods and richie-poos attending various charity events and galas. Dean had a talent for capturing even the most camera-shy folks and (somehow) placing them in a favorable light.

He'll be missed.
