Jo Mannies, perhaps the St. Louis metro area's most seasoned political reporter, has joined the staff of the upstart online-only newspaper, St. Louis Beacon, where she'll continue to pen pieces on state and local politics.

Mannies covered politics for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for some 30 years before retiring last fall. The Post kept her on as a freelancer, writing a weekly column and contributing regularly to its Web site. But that gig's up now that Mannies will be a full-time scribe for the Beacon. Editor Margaret Wolf Freivogel says Mannies will write daily for the online paper.
