South County License Office On the Sales Block; Was Run By Gov. Blunt Operative

Gov. Jay Nixon announced this week that six more vehicle and drivers license bureaus in Missouri will be put up for bid. One of those offices, the south St Louis County license bureau in Ronnie's Plaza on Lindbergh Boulevard, had been run by Garrett Lott.

A well-connected Republican activist and donor, Lott and his Clayton business partner, Andy Cohen, were awarded management of several license bureaus under former Gov. Matt Blunt. During his gubernatorial campaign, Nixon vowed that he would do away with the patronage system that awarded the profitable bureaus to party loyalists.

Earlier this month the Nixon administration put six other bureaus up for bid. The south county license bureau earned an estimated $560,000 in transactions and fees last year. Think you'd like to go into the vehicle license business yourself? You can bid on the south county office here.
