A one Chuck Berry was born on this day in 1926. Last night he played a show at the Duck Room, wearing an ensemble remarkably similar to the one he's got on in that photo above, taken at Keiner Plaza a few years back. And somewhere in the middle, between 1926 and 2012, the man invented rock & roll. If we encounter anyone named Maybellene today, we will call her Ida May in his honor.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland plans to do a great deal more than that. In fact, it will dedicate an entire week to Chuck -- that starts Monday. There will be screenings, seminars and a culminating tribute concert set to feature Ernie Isley and Darryl DMC McDaniels, Joe Bonamassa, Rick Derringer, Rosie Flores, John Fullbright, David Johansen, Ronnie Hawkins, JD McPherson, Lemmy Kilmister, Merle Haggard, Chuck Prophet, Vernon Reid, Duke Robillard, Ray Sharpe, Earl Slick and M. Ward.
That's a week from Saturday, on October 27. But today, we're celebrating the man to whom we all here at RFT Music owe our careers, in a Genesis-story way. We're lucky he calls this place home.
