The local band reunions keep coming. This time three punk bands from the early 2000s will reunite for a show at The Firebird on January 14. The Dead Celebrities, voted by Riverfront Times readers as the best punk band of 2002 and 2003, will headline a bill that also includes Resistall and Photo By Husband. The Dead Celebrities specialize in classic hardcore that's all substance and no gimmicks. After the group's original run from 2000 to 2005, the group reunited in this year to serve as the house band for "Effin With Tonight," an animated fake talk show hosted by Patrick "Puddy" Warburton that airs on crackle.com. The Dead Celebrities played at the show's premiere party in L.A. in August, but this will be its first show in St. Louis since the band was active.
Resistall was somewhat overlooked in its brief existence. The band started out as the solo project of Phil Stendek after the dissolution of his previous band Celery in 1999 (who also reunited recently) and featured various musicians before the project petered out in 2002. Resistall traded in hooky alt/punk rock that occasionally veered into reggae and rockabilly diversions. This reunion will feature the longest-lasting "classic" lineup of Laurel Mydock on bass and Joe Meyer on drums that was heard on two of the three Resistall releases. Mydock went on to form the much-missed The 75s Meyer has become a fixture on the scene, playing with acts as varied as Erin Bode, The Trip Daddys and The Incurables over the years.
