Could you name Foreigner's lead singer? Put all of Motorhead's albums in chronological order? If you answered no, then go ahead and get some sleep. If you answered yes, then you could be a real contender. Bleeding Deacon's weekly Tuesday Night Music Trivia is only for the serious music addict, but there is no shortage of those in St. Louis.
The Deacond trivia night gets a steady crowd every week. It's thirty questions from all genres and categories, six rounds, 45 minutes. Though the trivia begins rather late for a Tuesday, quick and efficient is the name of the game.
Anywhere between 11:00 and 11:15 p.m. the announcer visits each table, checks whether they are "in or out," passes out a piece of scrap paper and pencil, perches himself atop a chair behind the bar and begins to shout the questions sans microphone. Each question is projected through the dark room clearly and loudly as he reads from his "future phone (which are banned to all participants, naturally) while the teams quickly collaborate and jot down an answer. After all the papers are turned in and a smoke break commences, answers are read aloud with responses of both elation and disappointment. Teams keep their own score and only if you are in the top two are the answer sheets actually checked.
The results are always close, but what else is expected when music lovers have free booze on the line?
