Why Did Owen Cancel Last Night's Cicero's Show?

Last night, people who headed out to see Owen kick off PLAY:stl fest at Cicero's were in for an unpleasant surprise: The singer-songwriter (real name: Mike Kinsella) had canceled the show -- and nobody was really sure why.

This morning, the publicist for his label, Polyvinyl Records, cleared up the reason. Via email:

Mike had to cancel because his mom was planning on babysitting his 2 year old daughter that night, but his mom came down with the flu, so he couldn't find another overnight babysitter in time.

You can see what looks to be the adorable kidlet at Owen's MySpace page -- and add "good father" to his list of attributes.
