Soulard venue the Library (706 Lafayette Avenue) is closing as of July 1. An email passed to me by a band member states:
Unfortunately, as of Wednesday, June 30, 2010, The Library Live Music Venue will close forever. This means that we have to cancel your show with us if you have one scheduled. We are very sorry, and am also working with other venues to take dates from us. We have have become yet another victim of the economy. We fought to the bitter end and then some. We wish you the best. The music is our heart and soul, but in business it also takes money and people drinking to keep the doors open. Over the years, we have been blessed to hear, see, and know many amazing bands and people. We wish more than anything we did not have to close. Take care and keep the music alive and original!
The message goes on to state that tonight and tomorrow, the Library will be open from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. and have half-price drinks all night. The venue opened as a live-music club in March 2009 and had regularly hosted a variety of local and national acts.
