Liars Coming to the Firebird in July, Furthering the '80s Revival with Beck

Anyone who showed up early at Radiohead's set a few years ago experienced the face-melting Australian nomadic rock band Liars. Although the cavernous Verizon Wireless Amphitheater swallowed the group's post-punk throttling, fans will have a chance to experience annihilation up close on July 22: The band's playing at the Firebird on July 22. The group's latest, Sisterworld, is a nuanced, artful punch to the throat, a collection where ominous soul mutters, diffracted electronics and peals of noise collide into unsettling, glorious chaos. Tickets are on sale Saturday at noon.

Incidentally, Liars vocalist Angus Andrew is responsible for Beck covering INXS' 1987 album Kick in full. Beck's official website has performance video of each song; the latest is "Need You Tonight," and it's by far the best cover so far. St. Vincent's Annie Clark contributes sultry vocals, as funky keyboards and guitars freak behind her. View footage below.
