Big congratulations to Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three, who just announced that they're performing at the Newport Folk Festival on Sunday, August 1. To say the fest is prestigious is an understatement: Started in 1959, the event helped thrust Joan Baez and Bob Dylan into the national eye -- and in fact, the latter made his infamous and controversial electric-guitar "coming out" at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. LaFarge and his crew are performing on the same day as The Levon Helm Band's Ramble on the Road, the Swell Season, the Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, among others. We profiled LaFarge back in February; read that here.
