A-B's Place (5627 Manchester Avenue) is closing after tonight. A status update from the venue on its Facebook page yesterday said:
Unfortunately we have some bad news for everyone. This Sat night will be the last night we will be open. We have tried hard to make this place awesome and we just can't afford the rent anymore. We hope that everyone that loves us will come down this weekend to say good-bye. This place will be greatly missed. Hope to see you all soon.
The venue has been booking local bands (and the occasional national or regional act) on weekends since opening in August 2009. Tonight will be a DJ spin with Josh Jennewein of Punk Beer Rodeo and "crazy drink specials on what we have left," the venue says on Facebook.
