Where: Bird's Nest Studio's (Home Studio) With Whom: Brian Sowinski and Nick Price When: Recording February/March 2010 What recording: My new full length record "For Luck Or Lie" When due out? April 12. On that day, there's a CD release show at Off Broadway with Dana Falconberry (Austin, TX) and Glowing House (Denver, CO) Sounds Like: "A lot of the songs were written in a much folkier vein, but we've taken the production in some very interesting directions," Robins says. "It's been a lot of fun listening to the tracks and just looking around the room playing all the different instruments that live in my front room-turned -studio, just to see what sounds good.
"When we started, I thought the album would be something like you'd hear from Patty Griffin or Neko Case, but the songs seem to have decided they want to be something else," she continues. "And, honestly, I think things are sounding better than I ever could have imagined."
Robins gives immense credit to her collaborators, bassist Brian Sowinski and drummer Nick Price for helping shape and develop her songs.
"It would be a totally different vibe if I were doing this album with anyone other than Brian and Nick," she says. "They both know my music and understand what I want out of it, sometimes better than I do, and it's awesome to work with people like that. It doesn't hurt that they're both great musicians and are intent on lending their hands not only to the computers, knobs and faders, but also to the instruments I can't play.
"I love how my songs sound with those two behind them," she concludes. "There's a good blend of new and old in the songs themselves. Some are a few of the oldest songs I've ever written and a couple are the newest. Even with the large gap in age of the songs, they still come together to tell a cool story, and I'm happy about that. Of the 13 songs only one has been recorded before, but this time around, it's much different."
