The Pitchfork Music Festival announced its initial acts this morning. As expected, Pavement was named the Sunday night headliner of the three-day festival. (Other acts confirmed include Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, Raekwon and Lightning Bolt.) Pavement has a tour slowly coming together, and the venues it's playing are big: Besides festivals, it has a date lined up at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, capacity 8,000. Will at St. Louis date materialize? Who knows? We'll see. Stephen Malkmus' show here with the Jicks in November 2008 drew poorly. That never bodes well for future booking -- even if it's Malkmus with his far-more-popular band.
In the meantime, Matthew Perpetua of FluxBlog fame posted a download of the live recording of Pavement's last St. Louis show, a 1999 gig at Mississippi Nights. (h/t Todd for the link) Go snag it.
