(Like last year, A to Z will post a holiday-related MP3 every day of December, leading up to Christmas. If you have any requests, suggestions or files to share, email me.)
As light flurries swirl around outside, it seems fitting to post these two chilly nuggets from the Cocteau Twins. The songs come from the Snow EP, which is super out of print and hard to find, and are representative of the band's breathy vocals, sugar-crystal atmospheres and languid, gauzy melancholy. The band is long broken up, although guitarist Robin Guthrie is still a prolific musician (his latest solo album is this year's Carousel) and vocalist Elizabeth Fraser even just released a new song, "Moses." Fraser also recently talked to a journalist from the Guardian, her first interview since 1998.
