Well, it's not an entirely new venue, but still: Barbarella (3131 South Grand Boulevard), occupying the space formerly known as the Jade Room, hosts its first concert tonight. Patrons of South Grand will know the space as the rear of Mekong restaurant; scenesters will know it as the place right below the Upstairs Lounge. Those wanting a peak at the revamped venue will want to check out tonight's show.
Headlining the bill is Brooklyn's Talk Normal, a no-wave duo that builds hypnotic rhythms out of rock & roll's spare parts. Also on the bill is the Rhode Island drone act Lazy Magnet as well as St. Louis' Exercise. Grace Woodard (host of KDHX's Nomadic Reverie) and Jeremy Kannappell (aka local noise artist Ghost Ice) will have DJ sets. The show is free, though donations are appreciated.
