Congrats to us; A to Z reached 1000 comments this afternoon. (Perhaps I should thank Dave Matthews, Team Tomato and Billy Corgan for that instead, but whatever.) Anyway, here's to 1000 more.
Also, what's going down this weekend.
Friday, September 21: *Columbia, Missouri, video sensation Videology (not to be confused with the Waitresses' "Bruiseology" -- yes, I'm a new-wave dork) will be projecting his wares behind the Gentleman Auction House/Foundry Field Recordings show at the Bluebird tonight -- the show we wrote about in the print blog. Videology was the one providing the spectacle for the Polyphonic Spree show in August, and specializes in indie-rock clips; RIYL Spoon, Justice, Peter Bjorn and John, etc.
*The PlaySTLFest is going on all weekend in the Loop ;schedule and stages at the link. We've already written about many of the bands/artists performing multiple times, so check out the links I just posted or search our archives if you need more info on performers. (However, I recommend going to check out .e -- I've heard good things, she's been described to me as sort of Sonic Youth-y -- and The Silent Film, a burgeoning Radiohead-y band from Greenville.)
Also tonight: *Chicago Afrobeat Project, Off Broadway; early all-ages show, late 21+ show
Saturday, September 22:
*The Sudden Passion, Bluebird. This is the side project of Femme Fatality. Think the Bravery, acoustic -- heartfelt lyrics, tinny synths and rickety acoustic guitars.
*Alina Simone/Berlin Whale/Golden Shoulders, Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center
Sunday, September 23:
*Heaven & Hell (Ronnie James Dio, Ton Iommi, Geezer Butler, Vinnie Appice)/Alice Cooper/Queensryche, Family Arena. Ronnie James speaks here, Geezer Butler speaks here.
*So Many Dynamos/Mock Orange/A Band Apart, Cicero’s. The Dynamos have changed up their set, adding four new songs and bringing back some early faves. Mock Orange is quality, quality indie rock. And A Band Apart is from Japan. Excellent. Should be a good way to kick off the work week.
*Ana Popovic, BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups
