Next week for breakfast, leave the cinnamon bun; take the cannoli!
Piccione Pastry (6197 Delmar Boulevard, 314-932-1355)
is adding a sweet treat to its breakfast menu as of April 23: breakfast cannoli. The classic Italian dessert gets a morning update with cereal milk-infused cream piped into the center and actual cereal on top.
The cannoli will get switched up monthly, but the first round couldn't be more awesome: They're making Cinnamon Toast Crunch cannoli and Fruit Loops cannoli.
Those treats are part of a new roster of offerings to celebrate the shop's sixth birthday. Other new items include a breakfast calzone, spiced banana bread, chocolate muffins and bagels with cream cheese.
And if you're into cannoli but not the whole getting-up-early thing, it's worth noting that Piccione has long had you covered. Its from-scratch cannoli have been a local favorite for, well, going on six years now.
And this year, for that birthday celebration, its "All-You-Can-Eat Cannoli Contest" returns on Saturday, April 27. Choose either 1 or 3 p.m. as your competition slot and you can win free pastries for a year. Sounds healthy! You can sign up at the store or email email@example.com.
