Cha Cha Chow (4916 Shaw) announced Wednesday it will be closing its brick-and-mortar location after service on February 16. Owner Sam Burke will be taking his food truck back on the road, as well as focusing on catering, beginning March 1.

Cha Cha Chow started out as a food truck. Burke, originally the manager of the truck, opened the restaurant within the Gaslight Lounge building in the Hill neighborhood in March 2016.

The announcement was written on a paper bag and then posted on Facebook, quickly followed by a flood of comments by upset customers.

Some tried to find the silver lining. "Sorry to see the storefront go — and glad the truck lives on! Will be happy to see it come March," one wrote.

According to the eatery's Facebook page, this spring the food truck will include new menu items such as a shrimp burrito bowl, a jerk chicken bowl and a Cuban croqueta-inspired dish, as well as its signature tacos. Those were good enough to earn Cha Cha Chow honors for the RFT's "Best Food Truck" in 2016.

Sauce Magazine first broke the news of the closure. Burke told the magazine that Cha Cha Chow will make catering and the food truck its main focus and, in a year or two, open another truck or location.
