Peel Wood-Fired Pizza is coming to Clayton.

The pizzeria has submitted plans to take over the first-floor retail area at 212 South Meramec Avenue in downtown Clayton. The 8,800-square-foot space sits at the bottom of a new, 26-story luxury apartment building, Two Twelve Clayton.

The fledgling pizza chain opened its first restaurant in Edwardsville, Illinois, in 2010, earning praise from St. Louis critics. A second eatery soon followed in O'Fallon, Illinois  — a location that also includes a brewery. Now chef-owners Patrick Thirion and Brandon Case are preparing to bring their 800-degree pizza ovens to this side of the river.

Thirion and Case have proposed hours from 11 a.m. to Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A conditional use permit to allow the restaurant within the apartment complex will have its review at Clayton's August 28 planning commission/architectural review board meeting.

The owners did not immediately return a call seeking comment. We'll update this post if we hear back.
