  • The U Bar in happier times.
The U Bar (6714 Olive Boulevard, University City; 314-349-1100) has closed its doors — apparently for good.

A sign on the door reads, "Sorry, we are now closed. We will miss you. Thank you." The phone has been disconnected.

The unassuming little bar was open a bit more than two years — serving its first drink in March 2015. Before that, the space was home to Sir's Bar-B-Que.

But while the U Bar may have looked like a dive from its glass block and cinder exterior, it wasn't. In fact, it boasted good food and a good happy hour. Its biggest problem may have been its location. Located on Olive Boulevard at Kingsland, it was just a few blocks northwest of the Delmar Loop — close enough to face competition from all the bars and restaurants there, but not quite close enough to draw from its overflow.

We'll update this post if we hear from the owners.
