We’re not sure that there’s anything “club” about Club Taco (200 North Kirkwood Road, 314-858-1488), but we enjoyed the tasty tacos anyway. This new-ish fast-casual taco joint in Kirkwood has a large patio and a smaller indoor eating area. You order food and drinks at the counter and then a server brings your order over to you when it’s ready.

It’s good to know before you go that while they do serve tacos, it’s not an authentic Mexican eatery, and the prices are on par with trendy fast-casual food; you won’t find a Jack-in-the-Box deal of two tacos for 99 cents here. But we left impressed by the large variety of menu items for all types of diets. Read on for more on the choices for vegetarian, gluten-free, paleo and very young diners.

Vegetarian:
The menu is split into sections for beef, poultry, seafood, pork, breakfast and vegetarian tacos, and there are three vegetarian options: the “Fun Guy” features black beans, radish, portobello mushroom and fried avocado; the “Sicilian Kiss” is a take on eggplant Parmesan in a taco; and our favorite, the “Southern Fried Tomatoes,” features local green tomatoes and goat cheese with a Thai sweet chile sauce. We would have loved to try a breakfast taco, but sadly all the options were meaty.

There are three veggie sides — street corn casserole, “club” tots and Borracho beans — and the street corn is especially delicious.

Gluten-Free:
The following tacos are gluten-free and served on house-made corn tortillas: traditional bisteca, traditional tinga, "Family Sunday Dinner," "Porky Pig" and traditional carnitas. The "Southwest Tuna" taco is also gluten-free and actually served in a lettuce cup.

Paleo: The Southwest tuna features chile-rubbed Ahi tuna with margarita slaw in a lettuce cup, and the “Do the Hoke Poke” is actually tuna poke in lettuce cups with sesame seeds. You could also order several of the meat tacos without the tortillas and fork-and-knife it instead.

Kids: Club Taco knows what most kids want to eat, and it’s opposite of the creative, spicy dishes comprising the rest of the menu. Little ones can choose from black bean and cheese tacos, fried chicken and cheese, steak and cheese, or a side of tots and cheese. The fast-casual atmosphere is friendly for kids, too, especially on the patio.
